WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Falconry involves taking care of and handling a wild animal. Therefore, it is important that before signing up with us, you not only have an understanding of what is involved, but also have the commitment and enthusiasm in order to ensure that the bird of prey is looked after, handling it with the utmost care and respect. To ensure that you are ready to take up falconry, we ask you to ask yourself the following questions:

Do you have the temperament for falconry? Simply put, falconry isn't for everyone. While it can be an immensely rewarding, enriching experience, being a falconer involves doing things that some people may find objectionable or unpalatable such as killing animals. Most falconers use their birds of prey for hunting animals in some way. This aspect of the sport requires an honest self-assessment: Are you comfortable killing wild animals? Are you emotionally prepared to see a predator capture and kill prey? Are you willing to put wounded animals out of their misery?

You need to be physically ready. Falconry is an outdoor sport. While our outdoor classes take part during the cooler months of the year. We do not fly the birds when it is too hot, too windy or raining however, you still need to be prepared for the weather. Someone of any fitness level can take up falconry but it is important that you understand the sort of physical activities you will be expected to take part in. During live prey chases, you may have to run after the bird in order to retrieve it. This means running across sandy and possibly muddy terrain. You will need to spend a lot of time on the ground handling the birds and we also have our outdoor theory sessions sat on the ground in order to give you that ultimate falconry experience.  Before signing up for the course, it is important that you inform us of any medical conditions that may not allow you to participate in some activities.

If you have considered all of the above, feel that you are ready, willing and able to adhere with everything falconry entails and read and understood our Terms & Conditions, you are ready to sign up!
